Diagnostic Imaging Technologists / Sonographers

Achieving Canadian Licensure

The competencies of all foreign educated Technologists and Therapists are evaluated by a written examination based on a nationally validated competency profile.

The Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technology (CAMRT) has the regulatory authority to administer the exam.

The CAMRT Certification Process

The Certification Exam is offered three times each year.

Sonographers

Foreign educated Sonographers are not required to write a Canadian Certification Exam. The eligibility for licensure in Canada is established and administered by the Canadian Association of Registered Diagnostic Ultrasound Professionals (CARDUP)

CARDUP evaluates foreign educated Sonographers on a case-by-case basis. To be considered for licensure in Canada, CARDUP requires:

· Active and recent work experience
· Completion of a full time formal training program including a formal examination process in the country of current registration.
